Priorities

Cut the downtown bureaucracy and empower Valley schools.

⦿ Valley public schools are bogged down in layers upon layers of rules and regulations from Downtown. The downtown bureaucracy diverts funding from local schools. Implementing District mandates takes valuable time away from improving classroom instruction.

⦿ We need change so that every school is fully funded & empowered. That starts by working together to: reduce the Downtown budget and redistribute funding to school sites. Then, local schools can decide how to best serve their students’ needs. We also need to cut the number of mandates required by Downtown. Then, local schools can use their precious time to improve academic outcomes for students.

Ensure student safety and well-being.

⦿ Valley public school students are facing an increasing number of risks to their physical and emotional well-being. The fentanyl crisis, social media, school violence and other stressors impact individual students and the entire school community.

⦿ We need change so that every student learns in joyful classrooms. That starts by working together to strengthen restorative justice practices on school sites to improve discipline and overall school climate.

Prepare all students for college and career.

⦿ Only 50% of students in LAUSD graduate with the minimum requirements to apply for a 4-year college. As a classroom teacher, I see the immense potential of each student. Every LAUSD student should have the ability to choose college after graduation.

⦿ We need change so that every teacher brings their very best each day in joyful and inspired classrooms. That starts by working together to: to retain and recruit highly-effective teachers at all schools; improve teacher capacity to address numeracy through secondary school; and ensure all students have the literacy and social-emotional skills to excel in any post-secondary endeavor.

⦿ To help high school graduates get rewarding and well-paying jobs, we must immediately provide more career and technical education classes for students, including the opportunity to explore careers in fields like Information Technology, Robotics, Health Science and Engineering.
